FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Where can I get the application?
A: There are two different applications, one for apprentices applying in New Orleans and one for apprentices applying in Minneapolis. Both applications are available through links at the top of this page. Make sure you tell your school counselor that you’re applying! We work through counselors at participating high schools to be sure Apprentices receive internship course credit and to communicate information and expectations. While you’re at it, you might also want to ask them to write your letter of recommendation!

Q: Can you help with transportation?
A: Yes! If you need help getting to site, let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help out. We offer transportation to and from our program sites, in order to make sure transportation challenges don’t get in the way of our time together. Apprentices can also coordinate their own transportation to the site.

Q: Do I need to already have experience working in construction?
A: No! You definitely do not need any prior skills or experience – but a little curiosity goes a long way because there’s SO much to learn on site. You’ll learn everything you need on the job site under the supervision of skilled staff and alongside your peers.

Q: What if I don’t want to work in construction when I grow up?
A: That’s OK! Construction is the method we use to better prepare high schoolers for college AND career. There’s a lot of math, engineering, and physics, setting a great foundation for any number of STEM jobs. Plus, the experience you’ll get on the build site will help make you a strong leader for whatever your long-term career goals are.

Q: Can girls be Apprentices, too?
A: Of course they can.

Q: Can I do more than one Apprenticeship?
A: Definitely! You can complete as many Apprenticeships as you can before you graduate high school. Coming back for another cycle offers opportunities to take on new leadership roles and build on the skills you’ve already gained. Plus, you’ll be able to continue earning credits toward graduation at the same time, thanks to the Jump Start Program.
