    • Completion and grades are determined by the school based on attendance and performance reviews provided by uCC.

  • $200 Program Fee per apprentice enrolled

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: When and how do Apprentices get paid?

A: Paychecks are distributed once a month, in person at the session following the 5th of the month. Apprentices with perfect attendance (no absences and no tardies) receive a $50 bonus for that pay period.

Q: How do apprentices earn course credit?

A: Course Credit is assigned to apprentices by partnering high schools. An apprenticeship with uCC qualifies as a JumpStart Career Development Fund Internship. When a school enrolls apprentices in the CDF Course Codes, it receives an additional percentage of MFP for that student, which must be used to support additional costs related to the internship.

Q: How can I be sure a student will be interested and/or complete the semester?

A: Consistent school attendance and coursework completion have been the most reliable indicator of uCC success. Beyond these, an outside-school support network (family or otherwise) or a self-identified interest are the biggest indicators of persistence.

GNO, Inc provides these great tools to help schools implement JumpStart based on a student’s self-identified interest: https://gno.headed2.com/assessments

Q: Do Apprentices earn an industry-based certification? (Is uCC a Course Choice Provider?)

A: No. uCC is not a “Course Choice Provider” or “Supplemental Course Academy”, and applicants do not need to be congruently enrolled in a corresponding NCCER course. Apprentice cohorts are intentionally composed of a mixture of “college” and “career” pathway students, and the program emphasizes leadership and personal development through the application of technical skills.
